This mission, the final stage of Chapter 2, tasks you with defeating Dong Zhuo. Expect a significantly longer and more demanding battle than previous encounters.

Begin by clearing the four enemy bases in the bottom right of the map. Conquering two triggers a cutscene introducing mounted cavalry. Continue your base-clearing strategy; defeating Zhang Liao, the cavalry commander, rewards you with the twin pike weapon.

Once all bases are secured, assault Hulao Gate. The ensuing battle is intense. Prioritize protecting Cao Cao until he initiates his Grand Tactic, significantly weakening enemy defenses and allowing you to advance.

Lu Bu Appears

Dong Zhuo will deploy Lu Bu. Avoid direct confrontation; a one-on-one fight is suicidal. Instead, focus on eliminating officers around Lu Bu's forces to maintain morale, which Lu Bu’s presence will significantly deplete. Lu Bu will eventually attack your main base (targeting Yuan Shao). Resist the urge to pursue him; Liu Bei's forces will delay Lu Bu, giving you time to defeat Dong Zhuo. This creates a time limit; if Liu Bei's forces are defeated, Lu Bu will eliminate Yuan Shao, ending the mission.

Go After Dong Zhuo

After Lu Bu's departure, resupply at any conquered base if needed. Then, capture the northern and western bases. With three squads ready and your health replenished, attack Dong Zhuo. He’ll initiate a Grand Tactic (fireballs). Destroy the two front catapults to counter it. Use Musou Rage if available, clearing a path through the soldiers guarding the catapults. Eliminate surrounding soldiers and officers to allow your forces to destroy the catapults.

Dong Zhuo will launch another Grand Tactic. This time, defeat an officer to end it. Proceed to the stairs on the right; be prepared for an ambush by Diaochan (defected to Dong Zhuo). If possible, duel her; defeating her simplifies the fight against the officer. Once the Grand Tactic is countered, the path to Dong Zhuo is clear. Your forces should easily overcome his weakened army while Lu Bu is engaged elsewhere. Dian Wei might even initiate a Grand Tactic, further aiding your assault. Focus on defeating Dong Zhuo; a direct duel isn’t necessary at this point.
