Bethesda Presents Remastered Oblivion Keys to Skyblivion Team
May 14,2025Author: Adam
Fans of The Elder Scrolls series have reason to celebrate today as Bethesda has shown its appreciation for the modding community by gifting free game keys for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered to the entire team behind the popular mod, Skyblivion. This gesture underscores Bethesda's support for the modding community and has been met with widespread praise.
The Skyblivion team took to BlueSky to express their gratitude for Bethesda's generous gift. "As massive fans, we're beyond grateful for the generous gift of Oblivion Remastered game keys for our entire modding team! This means so much to us. Thank you for everything, Bethesda!" they stated. Skyblivion is a fan-made project by the TESRenewal volunteer group, aiming to recreate The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion within the engine of its sequel, Skyrim. The project, which began as a simple port over a decade ago, has evolved into a comprehensive remake, promising new features and content. We had the opportunity to speak with one of the developers back in 2021, and the team anticipates releasing Skyblivion later this year.
Bethesda and the Skyblivion team have maintained a positive relationship over the years. Amidst rumors of an official Oblivion remaster potentially competing with Skyblivion due to similar release timings, the modding team recently addressed these concerns. They emphasized that Bethesda has always been supportive of community projects like theirs and stressed that there is no need for competition between the two projects.
It's worth noting that Oblivion Remastered does not officially support mods, yet the community has already begun developing unofficial mods shortly after its release. While Skyblivion won't be available on consoles, it boasts new and refurbished content not found in Oblivion Remastered. The latter, however, includes the horse armor DLC for Deluxe Edition buyers at launch. Both versions offer different aesthetics and gameplay experiences, with varying degrees of Skyrim influence. Oblivion Remastered is available to play now, while fans will need to wait a bit longer for Skyblivion.
While we anticipate the release of Skyblivion, you can delve into why some players consider today's release more of a remake than a remaster and explore Bethesda's decision to label it as "Remastered." We've also compiled an extensive guide for Oblivion Remastered, featuring an Interactive Map, complete Walkthroughs for the Main Questline and Guild Quests, tips on Building the Perfect Character, and a list of Things to Do First, among other resources.
