Gearbox has thrilling news for fans of the Borderlands series: Borderlands 4 is officially on its way, with a confirmed release date of September 23, 2025. This exciting announcement came from Gearbox president Randy Pitchford during the latest State of Play event. To ramp up the excitement, Gearbox released a new trailer that showcases some of the innovative gameplay features players can expect in the upcoming installment.
One of the standout additions highlighted in the trailer is the introduction of a grappling hook, promising to add a new layer of dynamic movement and strategy to the game. However, fans of the series' signature over-the-top guns, explosions, and general mayhem will find plenty to enjoy as well.
In celebration of the release date announcement, Gearbox has also planned a special Borderlands 4-themed State of Play event set to premiere this spring. This event will offer an in-depth look at new gameplay mechanics and, of course, showcase an array of new weapons that fans can look forward to.
While we eagerly await more details on the storyline, it's worth noting that the lead writer has hinted at moving away from the heavy reliance on "toilet humor" seen in previous games. It remains to be seen whether Borderlands 4 will adopt a more serious tone or continue the franchise's tradition of humor.
