TouchArcade Rating:

Mobile premium game updates usually improve optimization or compatibility. However, Capcom's recent update for Resident Evil 7 biohazard, Resident Evil 4 Remake, and Resident Evil Village on iOS and iPadOS introduces an always-online DRM system. This system verifies your purchase history upon launching the games. Refusal to confirm ownership closes the application. This means these titles are no longer playable offline, requiring an internet connection for each launch. This is a significant downgrade from the previous offline functionality.

Pre-update testing confirmed offline playability. Post-update, the DRM prompt appears, and declining it terminates the game. While some may not be affected, this forced online DRM is unwelcome, especially for already-purchased games. Hopefully, Capcom will implement a less intrusive purchase verification method, perhaps checking less frequently. This update negatively impacts the recommendation of these premium ports.
The games offer free trials. You can download Resident Evil 7 biohazard on iOS, iPadOS, and macOS here, Resident Evil 4 Remake here, and Resident Evil Village here. My reviews are available here, here, and here respectively. Do you own these Resident Evil titles on iOS? What are your thoughts on this update?
