Like its predecessors, Dynasty Warriors: Origins plunges you into the heart of ancient China's warfare, letting you fight alongside various warlords. However, a crucial decision awaits: choosing your allegiance. This guide explains how to navigate the faction selection process.
The game's initial chapters feature the Wanderer, your character, operating independently. You'll assist Sun Jian, Cao Cao, and Liu Bei in various battles, participating in significant events like the Yellow Turban Rebellion and the Battle of Hulao Gate, without formally committing to any one side.
Chapter 3 marks a turning point. The game prompts you to select a faction. By this stage, you've likely formed an opinion, but if not, the game provides additional battles to help you get acquainted with each warlord's style and approach.
Progress requires completing a specific number of missions for each faction: three for Sun Jian, two for Liu Bei, and one for Cao Cao. Once you meet this requirement, a mission triggering the faction choice will unlock. You can only select a faction whose missions you've completed. For instance, completing Cao Cao's missions first will limit your choice in the subsequent mission to either Cao Cao or Liu Bei (Liu Bei's option will be unavailable if his missions are incomplete). However, you can always revisit and complete missions for all factions before making your final decision.
Your faction choice is permanent. After selecting a side, you'll lose access to side quests from the other factions, and your relationships with their officers will remain stagnant. This might impact gameplay difficulty; for example, choosing Liu Bei's initially smaller faction might limit early skill point acquisition opportunities.
Each faction offers unique missions. To experience everything Dynasty Warriors: Origins offers, consider creating a save file before choosing a faction. This allows you to reload and explore different alliances.
