CD Projekt Red has confirmed that Ciri will take center stage in the eagerly anticipated The Witcher 4. This move marks a natural and logical progression of the series' storyline. Executive producer Malgorzata Mitrega highlighted that the decision to shift the focus from Geralt to Ciri was influenced by the evolution of the game series and the narrative arcs in Andrzej Sapkowski's original works.
Mitrega pointed out that Geralt's narrative arc was fully resolved in The Witcher 3, setting the stage for Ciri to step into the spotlight. With her rich backstory and development across the books and games, Ciri offers a wealth of creative possibilities for the developers. Director Sebastian Kalemba mentioned that Ciri's younger age allows players greater flexibility in shaping her character, a freedom that was not possible with the more established Geralt.
The idea of transitioning the protagonist role to Ciri has been in discussion for nearly a decade, underscoring CD Projekt Red's long-term vision of her as Geralt's successor. Kalemba further stated that the new challenges and perspectives Ciri faces will help forge an epic new saga.
Actor Doug Cockle, the voice behind Geralt, has endorsed the shift, praising Ciri's untapped potential as a central figure. While Geralt will still appear in the game, he will no longer be the primary focus, which enhances the narrative shift towards Ciri's perspective.
