Citizen Sleeper 2: Best Class Guide

Mar 13,2025 Author: Carter

At the start of Citizen Sleeper 2, you'll choose from three classes: Operator, Machinist, and Extractor. This guide helps you decide which best suits your playstyle.

Which Citizen Sleeper 2 Class Should You Choose?

The optimal class depends entirely on your preferred playstyle. Based on a completed playthrough, here's a breakdown of each, considering abilities and roleplaying potential.

Operator

The Operator begins with a +1 in Interface, base levels in Intuit and Engage, and no Engineer. Endure cannot be leveled up. Their ability lets them gain Stress to reroll their lowest die.

While powerful later, the Operator's early game can be challenging. Interface is a strong skill, but the initial struggles might deter some. The reroll ability isn't perfect, as a bad roll remains possible. Roleplaying-wise, the Operator offers broad versatility, fitting various character concepts.

Machinist

The Machinist starts with a +1 in Engineer, base levels in Interface and Intuit, and no Endure. Engage cannot be leveled up. Their ability trades Stress for +2 to their lowest die, also losing 2 Stress on a positive outcome. Later, they can further boost their die and reduce Stress.

This was my favorite class in my first playthrough. The ability proved invaluable for overcoming difficult situations. Many checks require Engineer and Interface, skills often lacking in crew members. The Stress reduction is a huge bonus, as Stress management is a key challenge. Roleplaying-wise, this class suits players interested in the game's technical and mechanical aspects.

Extractor

The Extractor begins with a +1 in Endure, base levels in Engineer and Engage, and no Interface. Intuit cannot be leveled up. Their ability uses Stress to add +2 to their crew's lowest die; this ability upgrades to further boost crew member rolls.

The Extractor's ability is very useful for managing Contracts, mitigating risks. The starting bonus to Endure is also beneficial, as many situations require it. However, I often found myself with ample crew members skilled in Endure and Engage. Roleplaying-wise, this class is ideal for players who want a more rugged, tough character.

This concludes our guide to choosing a class in Citizen Sleeper 2.
