Disney's Star Wars Horror Project Revealed by Andor Showrunner
May 03,2025Author: Charlotte
According to Tony Gilroy, the mastermind behind the critically acclaimed Star Wars series Andor, Disney is quietly developing a Star Wars horror project. During a recent chat with Business Insider, Gilroy hinted at Lucasfilm's secretive endeavors, suggesting that a darker exploration of the Star Wars universe is on the horizon. "They're doing that. I think they're doing that," he stated, confirming the project's existence without divulging further details.

If Gilroy's remarks hold true, fans might soon witness a chilling dive into the Dark Side of Star Wars, a territory yet to be fully explored on screen. The nature of the project—whether it be a TV series, film, or something else—remains a mystery, as does its creative leadership. It may be some time before we uncover more about this thrilling endeavor, but Gilroy's words hint that Disney is open to pushing the boundaries of the franchise.
"The right creator, and the right moment, and the right vibe … you can do anything,” Gilroy remarked, reflecting on his experience with Andor. He expressed hope that the success of Andor could pave the way for other innovative projects within the Star Wars universe. “So, my hope is that the show connects, and then we can pass along the favor that we were given from 'Mandalorian,' and we can pass along a good healthy backwind to someone else who wants to do something else cool."
The idea of a Star Wars horror movie has long been a dream for fans, including Mark Hamill. While the expansive universe has traditionally focused on the saga of the Skywalkers and their allies, there's a vast, shadowy realm waiting to be explored. Although some spinoffs have ventured into darker themes, major productions typically cater to a broad audience. A horror project could change that, offering a new lens through which to view the galaxy far, far away.
Andor stands out as a more mature and highly regarded entry in the Star Wars canon. Its first season, released in 2022, not only captivated audiences but also earned high praise, including a 9/10 rating in our review. As fans eagerly anticipate more, Andor Season 2 will premiere its first three episodes on April 22. In the meantime, learn more about how the success of Season 1 set the stage for Season 2.
