Exciting news for fans of the acclaimed video game Elden Ring: a live-action film adaptation is officially in the works! Collaborating with the talented writer and director Alex Garland, this project promises to bring the immersive world and thrilling action of the game to the big screen. Dive in to learn more about what's in store for this much-anticipated movie.
The journey to bring Elden Ring to life in a live-action format has begun, as announced by Bandai Namco Entertainment and the renowned American film company A24. Under the direction of the visionary Alex Garland, known for his work on films like Ex Machina, Civil War, and Warfare, this adaptation aims to capture the epic scale and intense action of the game. The film will be produced by a powerhouse team including Peter Rice, Andrew Macdonald, and Allon Reich from DNA Films, alongside George R. R. Martin, the creator of A Song of Ice and Fire, and Vince Gerardis, co-executive producer of Game of Thrones. While it's unclear if FromSoftware's president and Elden Ring's director Hidetaka Miyazaki will be involved, anticipation is high. Details such as the plot and casting are yet to be announced, keeping fans eagerly awaiting further updates.
As the live-action film takes shape, the Elden Ring video game franchise continues to thrive with new releases on the horizon. Launched in 2022, the original Elden Ring quickly became a phenomenon, selling over 13.4 million copies within its first five weeks. By April 2025, the game celebrated selling 30 million copies worldwide, a testament to its enduring popularity. It has also garnered over 324 Game of the Year awards, making it one of the most celebrated titles in gaming history. The 2024 DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, further solidified its acclaim.
FromSoftware is not slowing down in 2025, with two exciting new releases for fans to look forward to. First, Elden Ring Nightreign, a co-op action game set in the new realm of Limveld, will have players assume the roles of Nightfarers tasked with thwarting the rise of the Nightlord. This spinoff maintains the core elements of Elden Ring but introduces a fresh multiplayer experience. It's scheduled for release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on May 30th.
Secondly, the Elden Ring Tarnished Edition, designed for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, is set to launch later this year. This complete edition includes the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, four new armor sets, and a customization feature for Torrent the Spectral Steed. While not a launch title for the new console, it's a thrilling addition that fans can anticipate experiencing soon.
