"Evil Dead: Game Removed from Stores 3 Years Post-Launch, Servers Stay Online"

Evil Dead: The Game, the asymmetric multiplayer title inspired by the beloved horror franchise, is no longer available for purchase. The game, which hit the market in 2022 across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms, received an 8/10 from IGN. Our review praised it as "an asymmetric multiplayer game of cat and mouse that’s compelling and exhilarating, despite being rough around the edges - much like the horror/comedies that inspired it."

Despite the release of a Game of the Year Edition a year later, the game struggled to maintain player engagement. The planned Nintendo Switch version was canceled in September 2023, and further content development ceased. Now, three years after its initial launch, Evil Dead: The Game has been removed from digital storefronts. However, existing owners can continue to enjoy the game as its servers will remain online.

In a statement on the game's Steam page, developer and publisher Saber Interactive announced:

We can confirm we've begun the process of removing the game from digital storefronts. Anyone who has purchased the game will still be able to play it as we plan to keep our servers online for everyone.

We want to extend a sincere thank you to our community, to those who have been part of the game from the very beginning, and those who have recently joined us. We appreciate all of your support.

The decision to delist the game has sparked numerous negative reviews on its Steam page, with many players feeling that it marks the end of the game's life. Despite this, the game maintains a 'mixed' user review rating on Steam. One positive review from a dedicated player with over 380 hours of gameplay reads, "The end is nigh. It was fun while it lasted, lads. I mean that."

Saber Interactive, known for last year's successful Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, is currently working on several other licensed movie games. These include John Carpenter's Toxic Commando, Jurassic Park Survival, and an untitled Avatar: The Last Airbender game. Additionally, Turok: Origins and Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3 are also in development.
