From its very first reveal, many viewers criticized "Game of Thrones: Kingsroad," claiming it looked awful—like a cheap PlayStation 3-era licensed title or a basic mobile port. Still, a few hopeful fans held out for a pleasant surprise, particularly given the scarcity of compelling games based on the iconic series.
Now, with a demo released as part of Steam Next Fest, the debate is finally over: "Game of Thrones: Kingsroad" is, indeed, terrible.
Players have slammed "Kingsroad" on nearly every front: its dated combat, underwhelming visuals, and numerous design choices that scream "mobile game." Many are calling this new "Game of Thrones" title little more than a PC port of a mobile game. Even if that isn't the case, "Kingsroad" feels like a relic from 2010.
That said, the demo's Steam page does feature some positive reviews. Yet a noticeable number strike a curiously similar tone—"Really enjoyed the demo, can't wait for the full release." Whether these are bots or genuinely optimistic fans banking on a turnaround at launch remains unclear.
"Game of Thrones: Kingsroad" is scheduled to launch on PC via Steam and mobile devices. A specific release date has not been announced.
