When it comes to defining the genre of dark medieval fantasy, few works stand as prominently as Game of Thrones for modern audiences. Since the conclusion of the HBO series, the world of Westeros has been relatively quiet, with House of the Dragon being the notable exception. However, fans have something exciting to look forward to on the gaming front with Netmarble's Game of Thrones: Kingsroad set to launch into early access on March 26th. There's a small catch, though: initially, it's exclusively available on Steam, which might disappoint mobile gamers.
This decision marks a curious shift for Netmarble, traditionally known for its focus on mobile gaming. Launching Game of Thrones: Kingsroad on Steam first could be a strategic move to test the waters with a more critical PC audience. A successful early access phase might pave the way for a mobile release sooner rather than later, given the franchise's broad appeal.
Netmarble's approach, while intriguing, might leave mobile enthusiasts feeling sidelined. This tactic echoes recent moves by other companies with games like Once Human and Delta Force, suggesting a potential trend toward prioritizing PC over mobile. Whether this signals a broader shift in strategy among mobile-centric developers remains to be seen.
While waiting for Game of Thrones: Kingsroad to potentially make its way to mobile, why not explore some of the latest releases? Check out our top five new mobile games to try this week for some excellent alternatives to pass the time.
