NPIXEL has announced the unfortunate closure of Gran Saga, ending its international service on April 30th, 2025. In-app purchases are already disabled. Players who made purchases may request refunds until May 30th, though this isn't guaranteed depending on usage and store policies.
Launched in Japan in 2021 to considerable success, the global version, released in November 2024, lasted only six months. The closure is attributed to financial instability and an inability to sustain the game within the fiercely competitive global mobile gaming market. Established titles with loyal player bases pose a significant challenge for new entrants, requiring truly innovative features to thrive. Gran Saga's initial Japanese success failed to translate internationally.
This closure reflects a broader trend of gacha RPG shutdowns. The market's saturation makes it difficult for newer games to compete. Players often stick with familiar titles, leaving newer or niche games vulnerable.
For players of Gran Saga, this is undoubtedly disappointing news. If you're looking for a new mobile MMO experience, check out our list of the best MMOs available on Android!
