Kim stated that Zois accumulate karma points through their actions. Death triggers a karma evaluation; low scores result in a ghostly afterlife, requiring karma redemption before rebirth. A surplus of ghosts prevents new Zois from being born and families from forming, placing the responsibility of maintaining karmic balance squarely on the players.
