Jason Momoa Hints at Lobo's Role in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow

Apr 19,2025 Author: Logan

Jason Momoa, renowned for his role as Aquaman in the now-defunct DC Extended Universe (DCEU), is set to make his mark in the rebooted DC Universe (DCU) as the iconic character Lobo in the upcoming movie Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, slated for release in June 2026. Lobo, an alien interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter with superhuman strength and immortality, originates from the planet Czarnia. Like Superman, Lobo is the last survivor of his devastated world. Created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen, Lobo first appeared in Omega Men #3 in 1983.

Momoa has expressed his excitement about portraying Lobo, stating that the character is his favorite from the comic books. He highlighted the aesthetic similarities between himself and Lobo, adding to his enthusiasm for the role. In a recent interview with ScreenRant, Momoa teased fans about Lobo's appearance in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, suggesting that while the character will be visually faithful to the comics and have a significant impact, his screen time will be brief. "Well, this is the role I've always wanted to play," Momoa shared. "That’s the comic I loved, so I'm really nervous about it. It’s kind of a no-brainer to play this character. It's pretty big. I don't want to give away too much, but I mean, we look pretty dead on, exactly like the character, and he’s pretty rough and gruff and… I'll say the bike’s really cool."

From Aquaman to Lobo, Jason Momoa is crossing DC universes.

In January, DC co-chief James Gunn shared the first photo of Milly Alcock as Supergirl, though it didn't reveal much about the character. Gunn announced via a post on Bluesky that filming had begun on Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, starring Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El aka Supergirl. The movie draws heavily from the graphic novel of the same name by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Norgueira. The story follows an alien girl named Ruthye Marye Knoll, who seeks Supergirl's help to avenge her father's murder by the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills.

The cast of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow includes Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem, Eve Ridley as Ruthye, David Krumholtz as Supergirl's father Zor-El, and Emily Beecham as Supergirl's mother, alongside Jason Momoa as Lobo.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is the second film in the new DCU, following James Gunn's Superman, which is set to hit theaters this summer. The DCU's Clayface movie is scheduled for release in September 2026.
