Calling all King of Fighters fans! The mobile scene brings a mix of exciting news and somber reminders. While The King of Fighters Allstar remains dormant, a new chapter begins with the early access launch of The King of Fighters AFK in Thailand and Canada.
Following its pre-registration announcement just last week, this retro-inspired RPG take on the beloved fighting series is now playable for fans in those countries. And yes, NetMarble has confirmed that all your early progress will carry over seamlessly to the game's full global release.
As the name implies, The King of Fighters AFK brings iconic characters from the legendary beat-'em-up series to your mobile device. Strategize by building a unique deck of fighters and arranging them in diverse formations for classic 5v5 battles with a nostalgic twist.
A Challenge Beyond RugalKoF AFK faces a significant challenge in winning back the fanbase. Unlike its predecessor, King of Fighters Allstar, which featured wild crossovers like WWE, this new entry ventures even further from the series' traditional fighting roots into the RPG genre.
Longtime fans might find solace in the charming Neo-Geo Pocket-style sprites of their favorite characters. For those jumping into early access, the guaranteed addition of Mature, a key Orochi clan fighter, is a compelling starting reward.
However, for players still feeling cautious after past disappointments, this new direction may be a tough sell. The hope is that KoF AFK can successfully dispel any doubts and offer a satisfying, more relaxed strategic experience for the community.
