Following the recent announcement of an additional 26 cast members for the highly anticipated Avengers: Doomsday, Marvel Studios and Robert Downey Jr. have hinted that more surprises may be on the way. The reveal came during a comprehensive livestream that not only confirmed the extensive cast list but also marked the beginning of the film's production.
A notable highlight from the announcement was the return of Channing Tatum as the beloved X-Men character Gambit. Fans eager to see the full lineup can explore the complete Avengers: Doomsday cast list here.
However, keen observers noticed the absence of several key Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) figures, including Tom Holland’s Spider-Man and Chris Evans, who had been rumored to reprise his role as Captain America in either Avengers: Doomsday or Secret Wars. Evans later refuted these rumors. Additionally, other notable absences included Hulk, Hawkeye, Nick Fury, Rhodey, and from the X-Men side, Deadpool, Wolverine, Storm, and Jean Grey.
The omission of these fan-favorite characters sparked disappointment among the superhero community. Yet, hope remains as Robert Downey Jr., poised to take on the role of Doctor Doom after years of leading the MCU as Iron Man, hinted at further announcements via an Instagram post. He remarked, "That’s what u call a deep bench of talent. Actually it’s more like a row, but an extra long one… That must be it.. right?"

Marvel Studios further fueled speculation by commenting, "there's always room for more." The film’s directors, the Russo Brothers, added to the anticipation, stating, "It’s time…"
This suggests that Marvel isn’t finished unveiling the cast for Avengers: Doomsday. The big question on everyone's mind is: who else might join this epic showdown? Share your thoughts and predictions in the comments section below.
The Russo brothers recently shared that they view Avengers 5 and 6 as a "new beginning," setting the stage for Phase 7 of the MCU. Joe Russo elaborated on their approach to villains, saying, "The only thing I’ll say about the movie is this: we love villains who think they’re the heroes of their own stories. That’s when they become three-dimensional and they become more interesting. When you have an actor like Robert Downey, you have to create a three-dimensional, well-shaped character for the audience. That’s where a lot of our focus is going."
Avengers: Doomsday is slated to hit theaters on May 1, 2026, with Secret Wars following in May 2027. Leading up to these blockbuster releases, fans can look forward to Thunderbolts* in May 2025, the TV series Ironheart in June, and the launch of Phase 6 with The Fantastic Four: First Steps in July.
Moreover, Marvel Studios has added three untitled movie projects to its 2028 schedule: February 18, 2028; May 5, 2028; and November 10, 2028. Speculation is rife that one of these could be the long-awaited X-Men film.
