Marvel's New Star Wars Series to Explore the New Republic Era

Feb 12,2025 Author: Aaron

Marvel Comics is set to relaunch its flagship Star Wars comic series in May 2025. This new series, following the Battle of Jakku and the conclusion of the Galactic Civil War, will depict Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Leia Organa's efforts to establish the New Republic and restore order to the galaxy.

Alex Segura, author of the Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku miniseries, pens this latest volume. Veteran Star Wars illustrator Phil Noto (Star Wars: Poe Dameron) brings the story to life, with Noto and Leinil Yu contributing cover art for the first issue.

The story unfolds approximately two years after Return of the Jedi, focusing on the aftermath of the pivotal Battle of Jakku. As the New Republic strives for galactic dominance, Luke and his allies confront new challenges posed by opportunistic pirates, criminals, and other antagonists exploiting the power vacuum.

"Having concluded the Galactic Civil War with the Battle of Jakku, we can now venture into a fresh, uncharted era," Segura explained to StarWars.com. "This will involve new galactic threats, enemies, and mysteries for our heroes to confront, blending familiar elements with surprising new ones. These stories will be action-packed, featuring character moments fans expect, with fresh perspectives on the galaxy. We've ensured accessibility for new readers, making each issue easily enjoyable."

Noto added, "Alex's storylines and new characters are fantastic, and I'm excited to bring them to the page. It's been thrilling to depict the classic characters in the post-Return of the Jedi era, creating new looks while referencing the actors from the 80s to maintain the feel of that time period."

Star Wars #1 launches May 7, 2025, coinciding with Star Wars Day celebrations.

PlayThis isn't Marvel's only post-Return of the Jedi comic. February sees the debut of Star Wars: Legacy of Vader, exploring Kylo Ren's journey after The Last Jedi.
