Mattel163 is enhancing its popular card games for better inclusivity with a game-changing update: Beyond Colors. This feature makes UNO! Mobile, Phase 10: World Tour, and Skip-Bo Mobile more accessible to the estimated 300 million people worldwide affected by color blindness.
What is Beyond Colors?
Beyond Colors replaces traditional card colors with easily distinguishable shapes—squares, triangles, etc.—allowing all players to readily identify different cards.
How to Activate Beyond Colors:
Enabling Beyond Colors is simple. In each game (Phase 10: World Tour, Skip-Bo Mobile, and UNO! Mobile), tap your avatar, go to account settings, and select the Beyond Colors deck under card theme options.
Collaboration and Accessibility:
Mattel163 collaborated with colorblind gamers to ensure the new symbols are both effective and user-friendly. This initiative reflects Mattel's broader commitment to accessibility, with a goal of making 80% of their games colorblind-accessible by 2025. The development process involved color vision deficiency experts and the global gaming community, exploring solutions such as patterns, tactile cues, and symbols to ensure color isn't the sole means of card differentiation.
