Minecraft缔造者Notch暗示《我的世界2》即将到来！2025年伊始，Notch便在X平台上发布了一项投票，暗示他正在开发一款融合了传统Roguelike游戏（如ADOM）和基于瓦片的俯视角第一人称地牢探索游戏（如《Eye of the Beholder》）的新作。然而，他同时也表示，非常乐意开发一款“我的世界精神续作”。
令人惊喜的是，“我的世界2”选项在投票中以压倒性优势胜出，截至目前已获得超过81.5%的选票（总票数287,000）。原版《我的世界》依然是一款现象级游戏，每日活跃玩家数高达4500万到5000万。
Notch随后证实，他“对所有这些都非常认真”，并且“基本上已经宣布了我的世界2”。他认为玩家们确实希望他制作另一款类似《我的世界》的游戏，并且他很享受再次投入到自己热爱的创作中。“我不太在意我究竟先制作哪款游戏（甚至是否制作更多游戏），但我确实知道我正在制作一款游戏，所以我认为我绝对愿意以我的世界精神续作的形式认真尝试一下，并为此进行投票，”他补充道。
然而，现有的《我的世界》IP及其开发商Mojang早在2014年就被微软收购。因此，除非Notch直接与微软合作，否则他将无法合法使用任何与该IP相关的元素。尽管如此，他保证如果他专注于《我的世界》精神续作，他打算以一种不会“偷偷侵犯Mojang团队的出色工作以及微软正在成功进行的微软式改动”的方式进行，因为他尊重他们所做的工作。Mojang似乎也在创意自由方面保持领先地位，微软让工作室继续发挥他们的长处。
Notch还表达了他自己对开发Roguelike游戏或《我的世界2.0》的担忧，称精神续作并不总是像预期的那样发展。“我害怕我的下一款游戏无论如何都会变成这样，并试图努力避免。所以为什么不做人们想要的事情，并且愿意以某种方式给我更多报酬呢？”
