MultiVersus is Shutting Down After Its 5th Season

MultiVersus to Shut Down After Season 5

Warner Bros. Games has announced the closure of MultiVersus, effective May 30, 2025, following the conclusion of its fifth and final season. The news, shared via the official Twitter (X) account on January 31, 2025, and a blog post on the MultiVersus website, confirmed that Season 5 will be the game's last content update.

MultiVersus Season 5: A Final Farewell

Season 5, running from February 4, 2025 to May 30, 2025, will introduce two new playable characters: Aquaman (DC) and Lola Bunny (Looney Tunes). All Season 5 content, including these characters, will be unlockable through gameplay. Following the season's end, MultiVersus will be removed from the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store. No official reason for the shutdown has been given.

Offline Play: A Lasting Legacy

While online servers will close, players can continue enjoying MultiVersus offline. By downloading the latest version of the game between February 4 (9 AM PST) and May 30 (9 AM PDT), players will be able to access a local gameplay mode, allowing solo play against AI or multiplayer matches with up to three friends. The game will automatically create a local save file linked to the player's account, preserving all earned and purchased content.

Real-money transactions ceased on January 31, 2025. Any remaining Gleamium (the in-game premium currency) can be used until the end of Season 5.

A Look Back at MultiVersus' Journey

Launched in July 2022 as a free-to-play fighting game, MultiVersus quickly gained popularity with its unique 2v2 team-based format. Following a relaunch in May 2024 with significant updates (including new characters, rollback netcode, a new PvE mode, and revised currencies), the game still faced challenges, including technical issues and declining player numbers. Reports indicated a 70% drop in player count for PS4 and PS5 in July 2024.

At its closure, MultiVersus will boast a roster of 35 playable characters from diverse franchises. Player First Games and Warner Bros. expressed gratitude for the community's support.

MultiVersus remains available for download on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC until May 30, 2025. MultiVersus is Shutting Down After Its 5th SeasonMultiVersus is Shutting Down After Its 5th Season
