Nintendo Reveals Pricey Switch 2 Upgrades for Kirby and Mario Games

May 15,2025 Author: Aria

Nintendo has officially revealed the upgrade costs for transitioning two popular games from the original Nintendo Switch to the Nintendo Switch 2: Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree. Brace yourself—these upgrades are not budget-friendly.

While the upgrade fee for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom stands at a reasonable $9.99 each, NintendoLife has noted that both Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree require more than double that amount for their respective upgrades.

The Nintendo Switch 2 Enhanced Edition of Breath of the Wild boasts improved visuals and performance, achievements, and introduces the new "Zelda Notes" feature via the Nintendo Switch Online app. Owners of the original Switch version of Breath of the Wild can access these enhancements through a $10 "upgrade pack."

The Switch 2 Edition of Kirby and the Forgotten Land introduces new story content titled "Star-Crossed World." Meanwhile, Super Mario Party Jamboree's Switch 2 Edition offers "Jamboree TV," a new content suite that leverages the Joy-Con 2's mouse controls, the Switch 2 microphone, and the Switch 2 USB-C camera (sold separately). Enhanced resolution up to 1440p in TV mode, improved frame rates, new minigames, and online functionalities are also part of the package.

Although the U.S. prices on the American Nintendo eShop remain undisclosed, possibly due to uncertainties with President Trump's tariffs, the UK Nintendo eShop lists the Kirby and the Forgotten Land upgrade pack at £16.99 / €19.99—over twice the cost of upgrading Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom at £7.99 / €9.99 each.

The same £16.99 / €19.99 price applies to the Super Mario Party Jamboree – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV upgrade, suggesting a likely U.S. price of $19.99.

The $20 upgrade fee for both games might be justified by the hefty $80 price tag for both Kirby and The Forgotten Land - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star Crossed World and Super Mario Party Jamboree - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV. In contrast, their original Switch versions are priced at $59.99 each.

Here's a breakdown of the full game costs for the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition in the U.S. for those not opting for the upgrade:

  • Kirby and The Forgotten Land - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star Crossed World - $79.99
  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - $69.99
  • Super Mario Party Jamboree - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV - $79.99
  • The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - $79.99

It's worth noting that Nintendo Switch Online and Expansion Pack subscribers can upgrade Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom at no additional cost. Unfortunately, no such offer exists for those wishing to upgrade Kirby and the Forgotten Land or Super Mario Party Jamboree.

Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders commenced on April 24, with the console priced at $449.99. The demand has been overwhelming, leading Nintendo to warn U.S. customers that pre-order delivery on release day is not guaranteed due to high demand.
