"Nintendo Switch 2 Image Confirms C Button on Joy-Con"

May 02,2025 Author: Sebastian

Nintendo has officially confirmed that the mysterious new button on the Nintendo Switch 2's Joy-Con is indeed the C button, as previously rumored. This confirmation was revealed through the newly launched Nintendo Today! app, available on both the App Store and Google Play. A closer look at the app's promotional images clearly shows the letter "C" on the button.

The new C button was first showcased alongside the Nintendo Switch 2 earlier this year, though initial images of the Joy-Con did not feature any lettering on the button. However, subsequent reports had hinted at it being the "C" button, which has now been verified.

Speculation abounds regarding the functionality of this new button. Some believe it might be used for wirelessly casting the Switch 2 to a TV or for screen sharing. Others speculate it could change the Joy-Con's functionality, perhaps into a mouse mode. There's also talk that it might enhance group or voice chat features.

PlayNintendo has scheduled a Switch 2 Direct for April 2, where we hope to learn more about the new console and its features. Here's what we know for certain so far:
  • The Nintendo Switch 2 is set to launch in 2025, likely not before June based on the hands-on event schedule.
  • The console is larger than its predecessor, featuring bigger Joy-Con that resemble a mouse in design.
  • It includes two USB-C ports, one at the top and one at the bottom, unlike the original Switch which had only one.
  • The Nintendo Switch 2 is backward compatible, capable of playing both physical and digital games from the original Switch, as well as Switch 2 exclusive titles. However, some older games may not be fully compatible.
  • A new Mario Kart game is in development for the Nintendo Switch 2.

In the meantime, Nintendo recently held a Direct event focused on the original Switch, during which the Nintendo Today! app was introduced. Video game legend Shigeru Miyamoto revealed this new app as a last-minute surprise during the showcase. The app serves as a comprehensive hub for Nintendo enthusiasts, offering a daily calendar and a steady stream of news updates.

Miyamoto highlighted that following the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct next week, fans can use the Nintendo Today app to stay updated with daily news. This app promises to keep players in the loop with the latest developments from Nintendo as they unfold.
