Nintendo Switch Mouse Theory Gains Traction

The Nintendo Switch 2 reveal this morning lends significant credence to earlier rumors about Joy-Con mouse functionality.
The reveal trailer showcased detached Joy-Cons placed attachment-side down on a surface, connecting to what appear to be flat-bottomed connectors. These then move across the surface, mimicking mouse movements on a mousepad. A possible slider pad is even visible on one connector, bolstering this theory.
Pre-reveal speculation centered on an internal Joy-Con sensor, similar to those in computer mice. While Nintendo hasn't officially confirmed this feature or its implications, fans envision uses ranging from enhanced PC-style gaming (e.g., Civilization) to innovative applications within Nintendo's first-party titles. The possibilities remain open.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding mouse support and a new Joy-Con button, several details about the Switch 2 are confirmed: its name, a 2025 release date, and an upcoming Mario Kart title. Backward compatibility with the original Switch is also assured, with further software announcements expected in an April Direct. Stay tuned for comprehensive Nintendo Switch 2 coverage.
Next month, 22 titles will exit the PlayStation Plus game library. Notable departures include Grand Theft Auto 5, Payday 2: Crimewave Edition, and the final accessible versions of first-party classics Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2.PlayStat
