DC Studios boss James Gunn has exciting news for fans, confirming that Peacemaker Season 2 will premiere on Max on August 21. In a recent tweet, Gunn expressed his enthusiasm, stating that the Season 2 premiere is "one of my favorite things ever." Accompanying this announcement is a brief glimpse of new footage, showcasing John Cena's character in action, complete with a smirk to the camera as a fire blazes in the background. A voiceover declares Peacemaker as "a superhero now."

This release follows the July 11 premiere of Superman, marking the official start of Gunn's rebooted DCU. Peacemaker Season 2 will be the third entry in this new universe, following the Creature Commandos TV series from last year and the upcoming Superman film this summer.

Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran are steering the DC franchise away from the criticized DC Extended Universe (DCEU), which included films like Justice League, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Man of Steel. Despite this shift, some elements from the DCEU will persist into the new DCU. Peacemaker serves as a prime example, having debuted in the DCEU with its first season, but now transitioning to the new DCU with its second season.

Gunn has hinted at continuity, stating that **"many strands will remain consistent as far as Peacemaker's story goes,"** though it's not yet clear which specific elements will transition from the DCEU to the DCU. He has confirmed that all members of Team Peacemaker will return with the original cast, including **John Cena** reprising his leading role as Peacemaker, alongside **Frank Grillo** as Rick Flag Sr., **Freddie Stroma** as Adrian Chase, and **Danielle Brooks** as Leota Adebayo.

Additionally, Gunn has revealed that Peacemaker Season 2 will be set after the events of Creature Commandos and Superman, with the latter's events directly impacting Peacemaker's storyline.
