To obtain Plathinum and Ironyum, simply locate areas with rocks and dirt mounds – parks are ideal. Pause the game to carefully scan your surroundings. Once you spot a suitable mound, interact with it to dig. It might take a few attempts, but you'll eventually unearth the necessary resources.
If you're struggling to find dig spots, speeding up in-game time can help generate more rocks and mounds. However, avoid leaving the game sped up for extended periods to prevent missing opportunities to dig.

The Blast from the Past event offers a range of rewards across four weeks. Here's a summary:
