PlayStation Productions Unveils Ambitious Slate of Game Adaptations at CES 2025
PlayStation Productions made a significant splash at CES 2025, announcing a diverse range of video game adaptations slated for release in 2025 and beyond. The announcements, made on January 7th, 2025, included anime series, films, and a continuation of a popular TV series.
New Adaptations Announced:
Horizon Zero Dawn Film: Sony Pictures will produce a film adaptation of Horizon Zero Dawn.
Helldivers 2 Film: Columbia Pictures will handle the film adaptation of Helldivers 2. Details on both films remain scarce.
Until Dawn Film: A film adaptation of Until Dawn is set for release on April 25, 2025.
The Last of Us Season Two: Neil Druckmann revealed a new trailer for The Last of Us season two, expanding upon the storyline of The Last of Us Part II and introducing characters like Abby and Dina.
Past Successes and Future Projects:
PlayStation Productions, established in 2019, has already achieved box office success with Uncharted (2022) and Gran Turismo (2023). While earlier adaptations like Resident Evil and Silent Hill had mixed critical reception, their commercial success paved the way for PlayStation Productions' current endeavors. The Twisted Metal series, launched on Peacock in 2023, completed production of its second season in late 2024, though a release date is pending.
Beyond the CES 2025 announcements, PlayStation Productions continues work on film adaptations of Days Gone and a God of War TV series, alongside a sequel to the Uncharted film.
The continued expansion of PlayStation Productions suggests a strong commitment to adapting its popular game franchises into other media, driven by both audience demand and the demonstrated viability of these adaptations.
