The developer of Palworld, Japanese studio Pocketpair, has graciously given its staff a day off to enjoy the launch of Monster Hunter Wilds. As reported by Automaton, Pocketpair received several “mysterious” notices from employees who claimed they would likely be "unwell" on February 28, the game's official release date. Embracing the spirit of the occasion, Pocketpair declared the day a sort of holiday for its team. While this gesture is undoubtedly appreciated, the studio assured fans that updates for their own games would continue unaffected.
Monster Hunter Wilds has made an explosive entrance into the gaming world, reaching a staggering 1 million concurrent players on Steam alone. This achievement has propelled the game into Steam's top 10 most-played games of all time, surpassing notable titles such as Baldur’s Gate 3, Hogwarts Legacy, and Elden Ring. Despite its popularity, the game currently holds a 'mixed' user review rating on Steam, prompting Capcom to release official guidance to address PC performance issues. Additionally, Capcom has teased early details of Monster Hunter Wilds Title Update 1, which will introduce an endgame social hub for players.
The impact of Monster Hunter Wilds extends globally, with a particularly strong presence in its home market of Japan. Automaton highlighted a humorous post from a Japanese indie developer who claimed not to have sold a single game on Steam since Monster Hunter Wilds launched. This isn't the first time Pocketpair has shown such generosity; they previously allowed their staff a day off for the release of FromSoftware’s Elden Ring in 2022.
