The eagerly anticipated sequel, Predator: Badlands, has just unveiled its teaser trailer, sending waves of excitement through the sci-fi and action communities. The sneak peek introduces us to Elle Fanning's character, who appears to inhabit a perilous future on a remote planet. However, the twist here is that the Predator she encounters is unlike any we've seen before, possibly even taking on a protagonist role. The teaser boldly states, "The director of Prey welcomes you to a world of pain," setting high expectations for the film.
In addition to the intriguing new Predator, the trailer hints at connections to the Alien universe, sparking speculation that Badlands might lay the groundwork for a new Aliens vs Predator film. The visual cues are unmistakable: Fanning's eyes mimic the Weyland Yutani reboot effect seen in Alien: Romulus, suggesting she could be a synthetic. Furthermore, a glimpse of the Weyland Yutani logo—the infamous megacorp from the Alien franchise—appears on a damaged vehicle, fueling the crossover theories.
That's the Weyland Yutani logo on Elle Fanning's eyes. Is she a synth?
Predator: Badlands was first announced in February 2024, with its release date set for November 7, 2025. The trailer made its exclusive debut at CinemaCon earlier this month, but this marks the first opportunity for fans to get a glimpse of the upcoming adventure.
At CinemaCon, 20th Century Studios provided an official synopsis: "In the future on a remote planet, a young Predator, outcast from his clan, finds an unlikely ally in Thia and embarks on a treacherous journey in search of the ultimate adversary."
Elle Fanning shared some intriguing insights at CinemaCon, revealing, "Something unprecedented happens in this movie. My character is not the one being chased. My character actually teams up with the Predator. And you get to see him in a completely new light. And... I'll stop there!"
Directed by Dan Trachtenberg, known for his work on 10 Cloverfield Lane and the Predator prequel Prey, the film was co-written by Trachtenberg and Patrick Aison. Predator: Badlands promises to be a thrilling addition to the franchise, set to premiere in theaters on November 7, 2025.
