PSN Accounts for Playstation's PC Ports No Longer Required (For Some Games)

Sony's PlayStation Network (PSN) account requirement for some PC ports is changing. Starting after the January 30, 2025 release of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 on PC, PSN accounts will become optional for select titles.

Games Affected:

This change impacts Marvel's Spider-Man 2, God of War Ragnarök, Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, and the upcoming PC release of The Last of Us Part II Remastered (April 2025). However, titles like Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut and Until Dawn will retain the PSN requirement.

Incentives for PSN Users:

While PSN is no longer mandatory, players who link their accounts will receive benefits:

  • Trophies and Friend Management: Standard PSN features.
  • In-Game Bonuses:
    • Marvel’s Spider-Man 2: Spider-Man 2099 Black Suit and Miles Morales 2099 Suit.
    • God of War Ragnarök: Armor of the Black Bear set and resource bundle.
    • The Last of Us Part II Remastered: 50 bonus points and Ellie skin.
    • Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered: Nora Valiant outfit.

Sony hints at further incentives in the future.

Past Backlash and Considerations:

Sony faced criticism in 2024 for mandating PSN accounts for Helldivers 2 and God of War Ragnarök on PC, leading to negative reviews and the removal of Helldivers 2 from many regions due to PSN's limited availability (70+ countries). The requirement raised concerns about data privacy and accessibility for players in unsupported regions.

This shift suggests Sony is responding to player feedback, aiming to balance its platform integration with the needs of a broader PC gaming audience.
