The acclaimed series premiered in January 2023 to widespread praise, with many calling it the finest video game adaptation ever made. Its debut season earned eight Emmy wins out of 24 nominations. The upcoming Season 2 marks the return of leads Bella Ramsey and Pedro Pascal as Ellie and Joel, joined by newcomer Kaitlyn Dever portraying Abby - a vengeance-driven soldier. The expanding cast includes Young Mazino (Beef), Isabela Merced (Alien: Romulus), Danny Ramirez (Captain America: Brave New World), and veteran actors Catherine O'Hara and Jeffrey Wright.
The Great Debate Continues
Series creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann recently shared their differing perspectives with IGN on the enduring "Was Joel right?" controversy that has defined the franchise since the original game's 2013 release.
"I firmly believe Joel made the right choice," Druckmann stated. "Faced with that impossible decision to save someone I love, I'd hope I'd have his courage." Mazin offered a more nuanced take: "While I'd likely make Joel's choice in that moment, I'd want to believe I wouldn't. That moral tension is precisely what makes the ending so powerful - it refuses to give players easy answers."
The Last of Us Season 2 arrives on Max April 13, 2025, while Season 3's release remains undetermined. For spoiler-free insights, check out IGN's Season 2 review.
