Scarlett Johansson Excluded From Thunderbolts* Credits
Oct 23,2025Author: Blake
While Scarlett Johansson remains a dedicated supporter of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, she has no immediate plans to return—even going so far as to request the removal of her executive producer credit from Thunderbolts*.
"I requested the credit removal because I wasn't involved," the Black Widow actress explained during a conversation with Thunderbolts* star David Harbour for Interview Magazine. When Harbour noted her producer credit—during an interview conducted on the film's release day—Johansson admitted she hadn't yet seen the movie.
Harbour teased, "You hated it that much?" Johansson promptly replied, "No, you just want that to be true," while expressing pride in the film's creative team.
IMDb now reflects the credit change for the film, which premiered last month.
Despite stepping back from acting in Marvel projects, Johansson told Deadline she remains interested in directing for the MCU. Reflecting on her Black Widow producing experience, she noted: "There's always a way to explore meaningful themes—family, human connection, disappointment—even within a massive universe. The storytelling possibilities are exciting."
Following Thunderbolts*' release, Marvel rebranded it as New Avengers, even extending the in-universe conflict between Sam Wilson's Avengers and the new team into real-world marketing. The film sets up Phase 6's The Fantastic Four: First Steps arriving this July.
