Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Release Date Announced
Feb 26,2025Author: Lily
Paramount Pictures has officially announced the release date for the next installment in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. Get ready, because Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is slated to zoom onto the big screen on March 19th, 2027.
Variety reports the release date, giving fans a two-year wait until the blue blur returns. While specifics remain under wraps, the announcement comes as no surprise following the phenomenal success of Sonic the Hedgehog 3. The latest film raked in a massive $218 million domestically and over $420 million globally, securing its place as the highest-grossing Sonic film to date, surpassing the impressive $148 million earned by the original. This success is particularly noteworthy considering the initial controversy surrounding the character's design, which underwent significant alterations during post-production.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 also achieved the remarkable feat of becoming the second highest-grossing video game movie in North America, trailing only the animated Super Mario Bros. Movie. The cinematic rivalry between Nintendo and Sega continues!
The live-action Sonic universe continues to expand, now encompassing three feature films and a Knuckles-centric spin-off streaming series.
Based on Sega's iconic video game series, the movies follow Sonic (voiced by Ben Schwartz) as he confronts his arch-nemesis, Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey). Each film has introduced more beloved characters, including Tails (Colleen O'Shaughnessey) and Knuckles (Idris Elba), with Sonic 3 finally bringing Shadow the Hedgehog (Keanu Reeves) into the mix.
While Sonic 3 hinted at the next character joining the franchise, we'll keep that a secret for now. For those brave enough to know more, check out our new characters guide. And don't forget to read our Sonic 3 review!
