On April 9, Sega took to Twitter (X) to announce that Sonic Rumble will be available worldwide starting May 8, 2025. Along with this thrilling news, they released a new trailer showcasing some dynamic gameplay footage.Sonic Rumble marks the first multiplayer party game in the Sonic series, where up to 32 players can compete in various levels and game modes. Sega describes the game as, "Players control a character from the Sonic series as they navigate a toy world crafted by the notorious Dr. Eggman, tackling challenging obstacle courses and hazardous arenas!"
Given its free-to-play model, concerns about pay-to-win mechanics surfaced. However, Sonic Rumble Director Makoto Tase addressed these concerns during an interview with Automaton at the Tokyo Game Show 2024 in September 2024. He stated, "We're aiming for a straightforward system where players can purchase what they want for a small, fixed amount, steering clear of a gacha system that relies on random item drops."
Sonic Rumble Reaches Over 900k Pre-Registrations
Following the release date announcement, Sega shared that Sonic Rumble has now surpassed 900,000 pre-registrations. Each milestone in the pre-registration campaign unlocks in-game rewards to enhance your gameplay experience right from the start.

Although the final milestone remains undisclosed, fans speculate it might be set at 1 million or higher, similar to other games with similar campaigns. With several weeks until the game’s launch on May 8, 2025, there’s plenty of time to reach this goal.
