Astro Bot's triumphant launch stands in stark contrast to the disappointing failure of Concord, showcasing a wide spectrum of success within Sony's recent releases. This article explores the game's critical acclaim and its surprising success against the backdrop of Concord's shutdown.
September 6th marked a pivotal day for Sony. While the company navigates the aftermath of Concord's indefinite closure, its new 3D platformer, Astro Bot, has been showered with praise, achieving a Metacritic score of 94. This remarkable achievement places it among the highest-rated standalone titles of 2024, second only to Elden Ring's Shadow of the Erdtree expansion (95). Other top-rated games this year include Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth (both 92), Animal Well (91), and Balato (90).
Game8 awarded Astro Bot an impressive 96, highlighting its exceptional completeness and suggesting its potential as a Game of the Year contender. For a comprehensive review detailing Astro Bot's success and Team ASOBI's masterful execution, please see our detailed analysis below.
