It appears that the title for the sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie may have been inadvertently revealed through an NBCUniversal press release. The document initially listed Super Mario World among upcoming films set to be released on Peacock, alongside Shrek and Minions. This listing suggests Super Mario World could be the title for the next installment in the Mario franchise.
However, the mention of Super Mario World was quickly removed from the press release, indicating that it might have been a premature disclosure. The fact that Shrek and Minions were listed without their full sequel titles—known to be Shrek 5 and Minions 3, respectively—raises the possibility that Super Mario World might be a placeholder or an umbrella term rather than the final title for the Mario sequel.
Despite this, Super Mario World as a title holds significant weight. It directly references a beloved game in the Mario series, which could resonate well with fans. The title's specificity compared to a generic Super Mario or Super Mario Bros. lends credibility to the speculation that it might indeed be the chosen name for the next film.
This potential leak has sparked excitement and speculation among fans, who are eager to see how the next chapter in the Mario cinematic universe unfolds. As always, official announcements from Universal Pictures and Illumination will provide the definitive answer regarding the sequel's title and release details.
