Cameras have begun rolling on DC's highly anticipated film, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. To mark this exciting milestone, DC Studios head James Gunn shared the first official image—a behind-the-scenes shot—of Milly Alcock as Supergirl.

In a Bluesky post, Gunn announced that production has officially commenced, starring House of the Dragon's Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El. The photo depicts Alcock seated in her director's chair, offering a sneak peek at the character.

Gunn expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "Thrilled to see camera roll at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden on Supergirl, with Craig Gillespie at the helm and the phenomenal Milly Alcock as our Kara Zor-El." This confirms Gillespie, director of Cruella and I, Tonya, as the film's director, as previously reported.

While plot details remain scarce, the film is heavily inspired by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Norgueira's graphic novel of the same name. This standalone story follows Ruthye Marye Knoll, an alien girl who enlists Supergirl's aid in avenging her father's murder at the hands of the villain Krem. Nominated for a 2022 Eisner Award for "Best Limited Series," the graphic novel is highly recommended.

Matthias Schoenaerts will portray Krem, with Eve Ridley as Ruthye. The cast also includes David Krumholtz as Zor-El (Supergirl's father), Emily Beecham as Supergirl's mother, and Jason Momoa, reprising his role as Lobo within the rebooted DC universe.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is the second film in the new DC Universe, following James Gunn's Superman movie, slated for release this summer. Other projects in development include The Batman Part II (whose connection to Gunn's universe remains unclear) and a rumored Clayface film from Mike Flanagan.
