Koei Tecmo’s recent financial report for Q1 2024 provided an overview of future projects from Koei Tecmo’s in-house developers and brands. Among them is Omega Force, developing "Dynasty Warriors Origins," a brand-new tactical action game off the Dynasty Warriors musou game series. Scheduled for release in 2025 for the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam), this will be the first full Dynasty Warriors title since 2018’s Dynasty Warriors 9, followed by an expansion released worldwide in 2022. The game’s narrative follows a "Nameless Hero" and is set during the Three Kingdoms period that dominated China from 220 to 280 AD, following the end of the Han dynasty.

The report, released on July 29, highlighted two other announced games slated for global release: "Romance of the Three Kingdoms 8 Remake," and "FAIRY TAIL 2." Additionally, Koei Tecmo is working on several unannounced titles, including at least one AAA game.

Romance of the Three Kingdoms 8 Remake is set to come out in October 2024, marking the 20th anniversary of the original game, and will be available worldwide on PS4, PS5, Switch, and PC. Meanwhile,"FAIRY TAIL 2," a sequel to the 2020 RPG based on the manga series of the same name, is set to release this winter on PS4, PS5, Switch, and PC.

In related news, Koei Tecmo’s profits in its console video games sector for Q1 2024 centered on repeat sales of Rise of the Ronin. The company expressed high hopes for this open-world action RPG and anticipated strong sales targets, seeing it as a significant step towards becoming a major triple-A developer.

Koei Tecmo Looks to Release AAA Titles on a Continuous Basis

Rise of the Ronin Devs' Unannounced AAA Title in the Works

Throughout its previous report earlier in the year, Koei Tecmo expressed its ambition to gain prominence in the triple-A scene, launching a new triple-A studio that has reportedly begun work on its debut project. Koei Tecmo is working on several unannounced titles, including at least one AAA game as revealed in the recent financial report, though not much is known about this upcoming project yet.

AAA games, often referred to as triple-A games, are high-budget video games typically developed and published by major game studios, which Koei Tecmo has been striving to be. These games typically involve extensive development, marketing, distribution, and large development teams.

"To expand the Company’s lineup of titles, AAA Studio was established. In order to achieve medium- to long-term growth, we will continue to build a system that enables us to release large-scale titles on a continuous basis," Koei Tecmo concluded in the recent report.
