Mastering Weapon and Armor Upgrades in Avowed: A Comprehensive Guide

Progressing through Avowed introduces increasingly formidable foes. To maintain combat effectiveness, upgrading your equipment is crucial. This guide details how to enhance weapons and armor in Avowed.

Weapon and armor upgrades are performed at Workbenches (pictured above), located at Party Camps. These camps are established near Adra Waystones scattered throughout the game world. Interact with a Waystone and select the option to create a camp. These camps are marked on your map with a tent icon and offer fast travel capabilities. Upgrades require various materials, readily obtainable through exploration, crafting, or looting. However, advancing a weapon's Quality necessitates progressively rarer Adra types.

Understanding Weapon and Armor Leveling

In Avowed, equipment power is determined primarily by Quality, represented numerically, by color rarity (and an adjective). This directly correlates to enemy levels in the Living Lands. Under-leveled gear proves ineffective against stronger opponents. Conversely, appropriately leveled gear offers significant combat advantages. Here's the Quality breakdown:

• Common – Green, Level I
• Fine – Blue, Level II
• Exceptional – Purple, Level III
• Superb – Red, Level IV
• Legendary – Gold, Level V

Each Quality level allows for three additional upgrade tiers (+0 to +3). While less impactful than Quality increases, these still boost stats. Completing all three sub-levels is necessary before advancing to the next Quality.

Strategic Equipment Upgrades

Beyond Quality and sub-levels, Avowed features standard and Unique weapons and armor. Standard gear is common loot or merchant fare, while Unique items are named, special pieces obtained through quests or boss encounters (some merchants also sell Unique items).

Unique gear offers superior upgrade potential, reaching Legendary Quality, unlike standard gear which maxes at Superb. They also possess unique bonuses and perks. Therefore, prioritize upgrading Unique equipment, reserving resources for these valuable items. Standard gear serves as temporary replacements between Unique upgrades and can be sold or salvaged for materials.
