Excitement is building as the Thunderbolts prepare for their live-action debut, and Marvel Comics is not missing a beat with their plans for the team in the printed world. The current Thunderbolts team is set to play a pivotal role in the upcoming "One World Under Doom" crossover event, but the excitement doesn't stop there. Following the movie's release, fans can look forward to an entirely new Thunderbolts team in the pages of a brand-new comic series.
Marvel has just unveiled "New Thunderbolts*," a thrilling new series penned by Sam Humphries, known for his work on Uncanny X-Force, and illustrated by Ton Lima, who previously worked on West Coast Avengers. The series features stunning cover art by Stephen Segovia. Feast your eyes on the cover for issue #1 below:

While "New Thunderbolts*" is clearly timed to coincide with the movie, it's not just a cash-in. The series introduces Bucky Barnes as the team leader and includes an intriguing asterisk in the title. However, the team lineup diverges significantly, featuring newcomers like Clea, Wolverine (Laura Kinney), Namor, Hulk, and Carnage, with Eddie Brock currently embodying the latter.
The series kicks off with Bucky Barnes and Black Widow tackling a grave existential threat posed by doppelgangers of the Illuminati, who are wreaking havoc across the Marvel Universe. To combat this crisis, they assemble a new team of heavy-hitters. Yet, leading such a diverse and volatile group of characters will prove to be a significant challenge.
Sam Humphries expressed his enthusiasm, saying, "I love every iteration of Thunderbolts. I'm thrilled to continue the franchise's proud tradition of hard-hitting action, powder-keg personalities, and explosive surprises into a new era. This is a gang of seven of the biggest badasses and loose cannons from different corners of the Marvel Universe. Assembling a super team is like inviting the right combination of guests to a dinner party. So I imagined a dangerous, disastrous, unhinged Marvel dinner party, and went with that."
Ton Lima shared his excitement, adding, "I'm having a blast working on this book with Mr. Humphries and the team. Look at this lineup... it's crazy. They're not here to talk; they jump straight to the action! And that's the most fun part to draw. None of them are known for taking it easy on the job, so I can't either."
