A reliable industry insider suggests Xbox might announce a Developer Direct presentation tomorrow, January 10th. These showcases typically offer in-depth previews of upcoming Xbox first-party games, providing exclusive insights from leading studio developers.
The first Xbox Developer Direct, held in January 2023, memorably included the surprise release of Tango Gameworks' Hi-Fi Rush. Unlike traditional presentations, Developer Directs feature individual studios presenting their games, allowing for detailed explorations of development processes, gameplay mechanics, and core game concepts. A second event in January 2024 showcased titles like Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and Avowed.
Given Xbox's strong 2025 game lineup, another Developer Direct is highly anticipated. A recent tweet from known Game Pass leaker eXtas1s hints at a tomorrow's announcement, potentially for a Developer Direct on Thursday, January 23rd. This aligns with a previous statement from Microsoft insider Jez Corden, who predicted an imminent announcement.
The potential lineup for the January 2025 Developer Direct is impressive:
This could be the largest Developer Direct yet. id Software, quiet since summer 2024, might unveil new details on the highly anticipated Doom: The Dark Ages. The Outer Worlds 2 could receive a deep dive and release date reveal, while Avowed might get a final trailer before its February 14th, 2025 launch. South of Midnight and Fable, both long-awaited titles, could also receive extended showcases and release date confirmations. Furthermore, rumors persist of an Unreal Engine 5 remake of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion making an appearance.
Following a successful second half of 2024 with releases like Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and STALKER 2, Xbox is poised for an even bigger 2025. The upcoming Developer Direct will undoubtedly set the stage for the year ahead.
