Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Adds Cloud Saves

Nintendo has officially announced that The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom on Switch 2 will indeed support cloud saves.
While enhanced versions of select Switch 1 titles, including Tears of the Kingdom, were expected for Switch 2, recent reports sparked concerns among fans. As IGN revealed last week, initial disclaimers suggested certain games—or at least this Zelda installment—might lack Nintendo's cloud save functionality.
The confusion stemmed from early product pages stating: "Please note: this software does not support the Nintendo Switch Online paid membership's Save Data Cloud backup feature."
Nintendo has since clarified its position through website updates. While references to cloud saves disappeared entirely from Donkey Kong Bananza's listing, the revised disclaimer for Tears of the Kingdom now explains: "Save data created in the second save data slot in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition cannot be transferred to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom on Nintendo Switch."
The updated notice should alleviate Switch 2 owners' concerns.
This clarification indicates players can migrate their Switch 1 save files to Switch 2, though reverse transfers from Switch 2 to the original Switch won't be possible (as reported by Eurogamer).
The Breath of the Wild – Switch 2 Edition's listing reflects the same policy, suggesting consistent save transfer protocols across these Zelda titles.
Following the overnight launch of Switch 2 pre-orders—maintaining the $449.99 price point—demand predictably surged. For purchasing details, consult IGN's comprehensive Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order guide.
