Deadpool Ends Marvel's Bloody Trilogy in Final Chapter

Feb 21,2025 Author: Savannah

Cullen Bunn and Dalibor Talajić's Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe One Last Time is the highly anticipated finale to their acclaimed trilogy. This time, Deadpool's murderous rampage isn't confined to a single universe; he's targeting the entire Marvel multiverse.

IGN recently interviewed Bunn, revealing that while the initial Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe was unplanned beyond a fun writing exercise, the idea of a multiverse-spanning sequel quickly followed. Bunn pitched several concepts, including a cosmic and zombie-themed installment, but the multiverse storyline proved the closest fit, especially given the current climate.

The challenge of escalating the conflict led to the multiverse concept, introducing variants like Cap-Wolves and Worldbreaker Hulks, alongside entirely new, twisted versions of familiar heroes and villains. Bunn emphasizes the extensive research into the "best" (or worst) variants, resulting in what he calls the most epic Deadpool story yet.

Talajić's artistic style, which previously incorporated shifts between bloody carnage and the sanitized visions within Deadpool's mind, will again enhance the narrative. This time, the focus is on diverse interpretations of different worlds and character variants, promising a visually stunning experience.

While each Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe story is self-contained, subtle connections exist between them. This final installment offers a fresh start, yet observant readers might notice hints linking it to previous volumes. Crucially, it's a standalone story, requiring no prior knowledge of the series.

Bunn highlights the increased sympathy for Deadpool in this installment, posing the question: "What if Deadpool killed the Marvel Universe... and we were rooting for him to succeed?" This shift in Deadpool's motivation and mindset sets this book apart from its predecessors.
