Pearl Abyss Rejects PS5 Exclusivity Deal for Crimson Desert, Opting for Independent Publishing
Reports indicate that Pearl Abyss, the developer behind the anticipated action-adventure game Crimson Desert, has declined a PlayStation exclusivity deal with Sony. The decision underscores the company's commitment to independent publishing.
In a statement to Eurogamer, Pearl Abyss confirmed its self-publishing strategy for Crimson Desert, citing its potential for greater profitability. While acknowledging ongoing discussions and collaborations with various partners, the developer emphasized its commitment to independent release.
The company also clarified that no official release date or platform list has been finalized. Speculation regarding release dates is premature, as the developer plans a playable build demonstration to media this week in Paris and a public unveiling at G-Star in November.
September investor meetings revealed Sony's attempt to secure Crimson Desert as a PS5 exclusive, potentially excluding Xbox for an extended period. However, Pearl Abyss's assessment favored self-publishing as the more lucrative option.
While a definitive platform list and launch date remain unannounced, a PC, PlayStation, and Xbox release is anticipated around Q2 2025.
