Skull and Bones Adds Land Combat This Fall: Ubisoft Reveals Year 2 Plans

May 13,2025 Author: Nova

Ubisoft is charting an ambitious course to elevate Skull and Bones into its most expansive year yet with a treasure trove of new content, including new game modes, ships, the legendary Kraken, and a long-awaited feature: land combat.

During a special Year 2 showcase that aired yesterday, Ubisoft unveiled a detailed roadmap for the upcoming year. The highlight of the presentation was undoubtedly Season 3: Guts and Glory, set to launch this fall, which will introduce the much-anticipated land combat. This feature will allow players to engage in thrilling swordfights and gun battles on land, a significant departure from the game's traditional sea-based action. Part of the Season 3's Rogue Warlord expansion, players will explore sandy beaches and damp caves to recruit skilled Officers, enhancing their crews. A teaser video provided a glimpse of what's to come, although full details will be revealed later this year.

While land combat stands out as the year's most significant addition, Ubisoft has a fleet of other exciting updates planned for 2025. Kicking off today, April 15, Season 1: Ascent into Chaos introduces a new item ascension feature to enhance loot, challenging World Tiers, a new Schooner medium ship, and the team-based Death Tides PvP mode. Season 2: Oaths of War, scheduled for summer 2025, will feature Megaforts and the massive Frigate large ships. Finally, Season 4: Eye of the Beast, slated for this winter, will bring the fearsome Kraken, the Hunter’s Guild, and the Corvette large ship into the fray.

If these updates sound thrilling, you'll be pleased to know that Ubisoft is offering a free weekend for Skull and Bones from April 17 – 21. This is the perfect opportunity for players to dive into the pirate PvP action and experience the game firsthand. Additionally, the game will be available at a discounted price during this period, though the exact amount has yet to be disclosed.

Skull and Bones set sail on February 16, 2024, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X | S. In our review, we rated it a solid 7/10. While Ubisoft has been tight-lipped about specific sales figures, they did mention achieving "record player engagement" shortly after its release. Interestingly, the launch also saw a 200% surge in players for Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, indicating a renewed interest in pirate-themed games.
