Bloober Team's February announcement revealed their strategic partnership with Konami to develop new titles based on the Japanese publisher's IP, following the Silent Hill 2 remake's success. We now understand this collaboration includes revisiting the original Silent Hill.

Debuting on PlayStation in 1999, Silent Hill emerged as Konami's response to Resident Evil, establishing the franchise's signature elements: fog-shrouded environments, third-person perspective, and the unsettling town itself. Players follow Harry Mason's desperate search for his missing adoptive daughter Cheryl, encountering unimaginable horrors along the way.

With the Silent Hill 2 remake surpassing 2 million copies sold, Konami's decision to greenlight another remake comes as no surprise. The original game ranks as the clear fan favorite for revitalization, evidenced by an IGN poll where over 61% of 20,000 participants selected Silent Hill as the next remake candidate.

Bloober Team CEO Piotr Babieno shared this statement in February:

"As guardians of one of gaming's most revered horror franchises, Konami sought a creative partner capable of reinvigorating Silent Hill. Our proven track record in psychological horror made Bloober Team the natural choice, leading to our 2021 partnership agreement. During the 2022 Silent Hill Transmission, we revealed our most ambitious project yet: remaking Silent Hill 2, widely considered the pinnacle of psychological horror gaming."
"The remake's critical reception validated our approach - maintaining the original's unsettling atmosphere while implementing modern innovations. Earning Metacritic and OpenCritic scores of 86 and 88 respectively, along with accolades including IGN Japan's Game of the Year 2024 and Best Horror Game at the IGN Community Awards, demonstrated our successful execution."
"This achievement paved the way for expanding our collaboration through new projects aligned with Bloober Team's strategic development objectives."
"While we can't disclose specifics yet, we're confident our continued partnership with Konami will deliver experiences that meet fan expectations. We're eagerly anticipating sharing more details when the time is right."

The Silent Hill 2 remake launched October 8, 2024 for PlayStation 5 and Steam (Xbox Series X/S availability remains unconfirmed), achieving 1 million sales within days - potentially making it the fastest-selling Silent Hill title to date, though Konami hasn't officially verified this milestone.

IGN's Silent Hill 2 remake review awarded it an 8/10, praising "a masterful return to survival horror's most psychologically terrifying setting."

The remake's commercial success has clearly invigorated Konami's franchise revival strategy. Alongside the Silent Hill 1 remake, development continues on Silent Hill f and Silent Hill: Townfall, with a Silent Hill 2 film adaptation also announced.
