In the vast world of Minecraft, many methods exist for traversing its landscapes, but the Elytra stands alone as the only item granting players the freedom of aerial gliding. This exceptional piece of equipment opens up a new dimension of exploration, allowing for rapid long-distance travel and even impressive aerial maneuvers. This guide covers acquiring, utilizing, repairing, and upgrading Elytra across all game modes.

The Elytra, a rare and unique item, empowers players with the ability to glide through the air. This significantly enhances exploration efficiency, particularly when combined with fireworks. Visually resembling actual wings, they fold neatly into a cloak-like appearance when not in use.
While naturally found only in the End after defeating the Ender Dragon, within ships located near End Cities, alternative acquisition methods exist for different game modes, detailed below.
Thorough preparation is crucial. Diamond or Netherite armor, ideally enchanted for enhanced protection, is essential. A sword and bow, enchanted with Infinity or Power (for the bow), are vital for combating the dragon, either at range or up close. Stock up on arrows or a crossbow with fireworks for effective attacks. Potions of regeneration, strength, and slow falling provide significant advantages. Golden apples offer emergency healing, and blocks aid in reaching End Crystals. A carved pumpkin prevents Enderman aggression.
Activating the End portal requires 12 Eyes of Ender, also used for locating the Stronghold. Each Eye of Ender needs Blaze Powder (from Blaze Rods dropped by Blazes in Nether Fortresses) and an Ender Pearl (dropped by Endermen). Crafting an Eye of Ender requires one of each.
Use Eyes of Ender to locate the Stronghold. Throw an Eye of Ender; it will fly towards the Stronghold, stopping near its location. Navigate the Stronghold's dangerous labyrinths, and place Eyes of Ender in the End portal frame to activate it.
Destroy the End Crystals (using a bow or melee combat) before attacking the Ender Dragon. After defeating the dragon, a portal to the End Gateway appears. Throw an Ender Pearl into it. Locate End Cities and their ships, where the Elytra are found. Beware of Shulkers guarding the ships.
Break the Item Frame on the ship's wall to obtain the Elytra. Collect any other rewards from chests.
In Creative Mode, access your inventory (press "E"), search for "Elytra," and drag it into your inventory.
With cheats enabled, open chat (press "T"), and type /give @s minecraft:elytra

Equip the Elytra in the chest slot. Jump from a height and press Space to glide. Use W, A, S, D for movement: W (forward), A (left), S (descend), D (right).
Craft fireworks (1 paper, 1 gunpowder, plus additional ingredients for longer boosts). Hold a firework and press the action button for a speed boost.
Use an Anvil to repair Elytra with leather. Place the Elytra in the left slot and leather in the right slot.
Apply the Mending enchantment (found in enchanted books) to automatically repair the Elytra while gaining experience.
Mastering Elytra flight enhances exploration significantly. With preparation and practice, soar through Minecraft's skies!
