Hill Troll Location in Rune Slayer
The Hill Troll lurks in a cave on Bahlgar’s mountainside. Several paths lead there, but the simplest starts at the Lakeshire elevator. Head to Bahlgar as you would to face Beastmen. Instead of dropping down to their area, stick to the mountain’s edge and circle around. Move beyond the two platinum deposits and scan the mountain’s side for the cave’s entrance. Leap into the opening, ideally on a mount, to access it. It may seem tricky, but after one visit, you’ll navigate back easily. Watch our GIF to see it in action (we even joined a group battling the Troll and lent a hand).

Hill Troll – Tactics, Rewards, and Quests
Despite its fearsome appearance, the Hill Troll is one of the easier mini-bosses in Rune Slayer. You’ll likely face it multiple times, quickly learning its attack patterns.

First, never tackle the Hill Troll solo. Its attacks are predictable and dodgeable, but you’ll need at least one other player. Finding a group is easy, as many players farm this boss. Plus, it respawns in just 90 seconds after defeat.
The Hill Troll wields a massive pillar. Its attacks are slow but hit hard. You can parry or block most strikes, except when it lifts the pillar overhead with both hands—that’s your cue to run, as it stuns. Deal enough damage, and you can stagger the Troll. For Warrior Class players, a well-timed Counter almost always stuns it.
The Hill Troll occasionally drops rare gear, but don’t count on it. Instead, focus on collecting Troll Hides and Troll Heads. Troll Hides are key for crafting solid endgame gear, sufficient to prepare you for tougher foes like the Mother Spider.

The Troll Head is a Quest item for the repeatable Hodor Quest. Every hour, deliver a Troll Head to Hodor (near the cave) for a chance at random loot, including potentially powerful gear. If you’re farming the Troll, always take this quest.
Can You Tame the Hill Troll in Rune Slayer?
No, the Hill Troll cannot be tamed in Rune Slayer, even as a Beast Tamer Archer. As a mini-boss, it’s too large and unwieldy to become a pet. It likely couldn’t even leave its cave. Beast Tamer Archers should stick with trusty companions like the Mud Crab.
That’s everything you need to know. Enjoy battling the Hill Troll repeatedly and scoring great loot. For more endgame strategies, explore our Essential Rune Slayer Endgame Tips.
