Mastering Rune Slayer's Fishing Mechanic: A Comprehensive Guide
If you've doubted Rune Slayer's MMORPG credentials, its fishing mechanic should settle the matter. This guide provides a step-by-step walkthrough of the surprisingly non-intuitive fishing process.
Recommended Viewing: Pre-Fishing Preparation
Screenshot by The EscapistBegin by accepting the fishing quest from Simon the Fisherman (the white-haired NPC near the Barracuda's swimming area). He requires 5 "fish" in exchange for a Tackle Box (the quotation marks will be explained later).
To fish, you'll need a rod and bait. Conveniently, Simon sells both.
Screenshot by The EscapistPurchase a Wood Fishing Rod and at least 5 Worms (10 are recommended). Crucially, you don't equip the bait; it simply needs to be in your inventory. Each successful catch consumes one Worm. A minimum of 5 Worms seems necessary for successful fishing. Placing the Worms in your hotbar aids inventory management.
The Fishing Process: Step-by-Step
Gif by The EscapistSelect your Wood Fishing Rod (no equipping needed; simply have it in your hotbar). Cast your line (hold M1) into the water (the pier near Simon is ideal).
Watch the bobber. When it ripples (once or twice), click M1 again to reel in your catch.
Important Note: Success isn't guaranteed. You might catch nothing, or you might catch junk. Fortunately, Simon counts junk as a valid catch (hence the "fish" quotation marks). Aim to reel in five catches of any kind.
Quest Completion and Tackle Box Acquisition
Screenshot by The EscapistOnce you've caught 5 items, return to Simon to complete the quest and receive your Tackle Box. Store your remaining Worms in the box to free up inventory space.
