Hideaki Nishino has been appointed as the sole CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE), with his new role taking effect on April 1, 2025. This significant leadership change was announced in a recent press release, which also detailed other executive shifts within Sony Corporation.
Alongside Nishino's promotion, Sony's CFO, Hiroki Totoki, is set to become the president and CEO of the entire Sony Corporation, succeeding Kenichiro Yoshida, who has led the company since April 2018. Yoshida took over from Kazuo Hirai. Additionally, Lin Tao, who currently serves as SVP of Finance, Corporate Development, and Strategy, is being elevated to the position of CFO.
Just last year, following the retirement of former SIE CEO Jim Ryan, it was announced that leadership of SIE would be divided between Nishino and Hermen Hulst. Hulst took on the role of head of PlayStation Studios, while Nishino was responsible for hardware and technology. With this recent change, Nishino will now oversee the entirety of SIE operations and lead the platform business group, whereas Hulst will continue to focus specifically on PlayStation Studios.
Nishino, who has been with Sony since 2000, previously held the position of SVP of the Platform Experience Group. Commenting on his new role, Nishino stated, "I am truly honored to take the helm at Sony Interactive Entertainment. Technology and creativity are two of our biggest strengths as we continue to focus on developing experiences that deliver entertainment for everyone. We will continue to grow the PlayStation community in new ways, such as IP expansion, while also delivering the best in technology innovation. I want to thank Hermen for his expertise and leadership as he continues his role as CEO, Studio Business Group. I am deeply grateful for the PlayStation community and their continued support and I am very excited for what the future holds."
